DESCRIPTION

Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute 809 – Historic Pilot’s Chronograph

Breitling has long been synonymous with aviation, creating professional-grade timepieces designed for pilots and navigators since the mid-20th century. The Navitimer Cosmonaute 809 stands out as one of the brand’s most iconic models, distinguished by its 24-hour dial designed specifically for astronauts and pilots navigating in environments where distinguishing day from night was essential. Introduced in the early 1960s, the Cosmonaute gained fame as the first wristwatch worn in space by astronaut Scott Carpenter. This rare example, with documented military provenance and preserved original condition, perfectly represents Breitling’s legacy of precision, innovation, and its deep-rooted connection to flight and exploration.

Key Details To Consider

Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute 809 all original in very nice overall condition.

The case remains in its original unpolished state, showing moderate wear consistent with age and use.

This particular example carries notable provenance, having belonged to a fighter pilot from the Jordanian Air Force. His name is engraved on the side of the case, accompanied by additional markings on the case back—adding historical depth and individuality to the piece.

The original dial has developed an attractive warm patina across the lume plots, perfectly matched by the aged tritium hands. The lume still reacts under UV light, confirming its authenticity.

The movement was professionally serviced in October 2025 and runs accurately, with all chronograph functions performing as they should.

Fitted on a new handmade 22/20mm light brown ammo strap.

A remarkable and historically significant Navitimer that embodies both aviation heritage and authentic character.
