DESCRIPTION

IWC Pilot Doppelchronograph 3711 – Rare Yellow Gold Rattrapante

Founded in 1868, IWC Schaffhausen has built a reputation for engineering-driven watchmaking, combining Swiss precision with a functional, aviation-inspired aesthetic. The brand is particularly renowned for its Pilot’s Watches, which have been a cornerstone of its collection since the 1930s, offering legibility, robustness, and historical significance tied to aviation heritage.

The IWC Pilot Doppelchronograph Ref. 3711, introduced in the early 1990s, was a pioneering model that showcased IWC’s expertise in chronograph complications. It was one of the first watches to feature a split-seconds (rattrapante) chronograph, allowing the wearer to time multiple events simultaneously. Designed by Richard Habring, this mechanism added to the brand’s reputation for innovation in mechanical watchmaking.

The yellow gold version of the 3711 is particularly rare, as most of these watches were produced in stainless steel, making this example a highly sought-after collector’s piece. The combination of luxury materials and a utilitarian design highlights IWC’s ability to blend technical mastery with refined aesthetics.

Key Details To Consider

A rare and highly sought-after timepiece, this IWC Pilot Doppelchronograph Ref. 3711 in solid yellow gold is presented in outstanding condition, showing minimal signs of wear. The 42mm case remains sharp with no visible scratches or dings, while the bezel is equally well-preserved.

The black tritium dial has aged beautifully, developing a warm cream patina on the indices and hands, enhancing its vintage appeal. The sapphire crystal remains in pristine condition. As a split-seconds chronograph, this watch represents IWC’s mastery of high-complication pilot watches, offering both precision and historical significance.

Fitted with a new black OEM IWC Kevlar/textile strap and secured by the original yellow gold IWC folding clasp, this watch wears comfortably with a commanding presence. The movement’s service history is unknown, but it functions smoothly.

Accompanied by its complete set, including all papers, booklets, warranty card, hang tag, and wooden presentation box, this is a rare opportunity to own a legendary IWC chronograph in a precious metal configuration.
