DESCRIPTION

Rolex Datejust 1601 Lavender Dial – Rare Vintage Pie-Pan Beauty

The Rolex Datejust is one of the most iconic models in the brand’s lineup, known for its versatility, refined proportions, and historical significance as the first automatic chronometer wristwatch with a date display. Introduced in 1945, the Datejust has remained a cornerstone of the Rolex catalog, evolving subtly while preserving its classic design language.

The Reference 1601, produced from the late 1950s through the late 1970s, is particularly celebrated for its pie-pan dial and fluted white gold bezel. Often found with more conventional silver or champagne dials, the 1601 becomes notably more desirable in rare configurations such as the lavender dial—an unusual and highly sought-after variation that collectors prize for its unique color and low production numbers. Paired with original tritium lume, matching bracelet, and period-correct details, the 1601 in this form offers both strong vintage character and collector appeal.

Key Details To Consider

This Rolex Datejust Ref. 1601 stands out as a rare and highly collectible example, presented in full steel with an exceptionally preserved lavender dial—one of the most elusive and attractive configurations ever offered by the brand. The dial has aged beautifully, showcasing a soft lavender hue that changes subtly under different lighting conditions. All tritium lume plots are intact, with perfectly matched tritium hands.

The case retains thick and sharp lugs, complemented by a well-defined white gold fluted bezel. It may have been lightly polished in the past, but the factory geometry remains strong. The stainless steel Jubilee bracelet is stamped 71 to match the 3.3 million case serial, confirming full originality to the year 1971. It is in outstanding condition with virtually no stretch and comfortably fits up to an 8” (20cm) wrist.

The movement has been tested and is running accurately. While the service history is unknown, it performs as expected for regular wear or collection.

A rare opportunity to own a standout vintage Datejust in top condition, featuring one of the most desirable dial variants from the period.
