DESCRIPTION

Rolex Day-Date 18038 “D’Augusto” – Spanish Market Full Set

Rolex is one of the most iconic names in watchmaking, renowned for its innovation, craftsmanship, and prestige. Since its founding in 1905, the brand has set benchmarks in precision timekeeping and professional tool watches.

The Rolex Day-Date, introduced in 1956, was the first wristwatch to display both the date and the day of the week spelled out in full. Crafted exclusively in precious metals, it quickly became known as the “President” watch due to its association with world leaders and influential figures. The Ref. 18038, launched in the late 1970s, brought key upgrades like the quickset date feature and sapphire crystal, and it remains one of the most collected vintage Day-Date references today.

This particular piece stands out for its D’Augusto bracelet, a rarely seen variant produced for the South American market, and its Spanish day wheel, both of which add to its desirability and collectability.

Key Details To Consider

This Rolex Day-Date 18038 stands out for its rare configuration and unpolished case. Retaining its original factory finish, the case features thick, sharp lugs with crisp edges, making it especially desirable to collectors.

What sets this piece apart is the original D’Augusto bracelet—an uncommon variant made for the South American market. This bracelet style is now highly sought after due to its scarcity and regional significance. The condition of the bracelet is exceptional, showing virtually no stretch and fitting a wrist up to 7.5” (19cm).

The original black dial remains clean and well-preserved, with all tritium lume plots intact and evenly aged. The hands are matching tritium, and the day wheel displays in Spanish—consistent with the Spanish-market provenance. An original Spanish Authorized Dealer stamp confirms the authenticity and regional alignment of the watch. Remnants of the original case back sticker are still visible.

This example is a one-owner watch, acquired directly from the original family. It includes the original Rolex box and punched papers dated 1983.

The movement was professionally serviced in March 2025 by a certified watchmaker, including gasket replacement and a successful pressure test.

All reference and serial numbers are fully intact and legible between the lugs. A rare opportunity to own a well-preserved Day-Date with distinct regional features and strong collector appeal.
