DESCRIPTION
Rolex GMT-Master Ref. 1675 “Pepsi” MK2 Dial – 1972 Vintage Tool Watch with Faded Insert
Introduced in 1959 and produced until around 1980, the Rolex GMT-Master Ref. 1675 is one of the most iconic travel watches ever made. Originally developed in collaboration with Pan Am Airways for long-haul pilots, the GMT-Master allowed wearers to track two time zones simultaneously thanks to its 24-hour hand and rotating bezel.
The 1675 is notable for being the first GMT-Master reference to feature crown guards and a range of dial variations—including the MK1 to MK5 matte dials—each of which carries distinct collector value. Its bidirectional Pepsi bezel, classic Oyster case, and robust automatic movement make it a favorite among vintage Rolex enthusiasts. The 1675’s durability, functionality, and evolving aesthetics over its 20-year production run have solidified its place as a cornerstone in Rolex’s professional watch lineup.
Key Details To Consider
A compelling example of the iconic dual-time GMT-Master, this Ref. 1675 from 1972 features a full stainless steel Oyster case that remains thick and well-defined, exhibiting honest wear consistent with decades of use. According to the previous owner, the case has never been polished, retaining its original lines and proportions.
The MK2 matte dial is in outstanding condition, with all luminous plots showing an even yellow patina that continues to glow briefly under UV light. The matching tritium handset complements the dial beautifully, preserving a uniform aesthetic throughout.
Its “red-back” Pepsi bezel insert has faded over time into a distinctive pink-and-blue gradient, adding personality and visual depth to the piece. The bezel’s natural aging tells a story all its own and pairs perfectly with the warm tones of the dial.
Fitted with its original folded-link Oyster bracelet stamped ’72, this example features 13 links and displays no stretch—an uncommon trait in bracelets of this age.
The 3.4 million serial and clean reference engravings remain sharp and legible between the lugs. The movement was professionally serviced in July 2025 and tested to 3ATM water resistance, ensuring it functions reliably while retaining its vintage character.
A well-preserved, correct, and fully functional example of one of Rolex’s most collectible sports models.
