DESCRIPTION
Rolex GMT-Master 1675 in steel, MK5 "Pepsi" dial with patina, Jubilee bracelet, cal. 1570, circa 1978
Rolex GMT-Master
Rolex is one of the most recognized watch manufacturers in the world, based in Geneva, Switzerland. The brand has been producing watches since the early 1900s and built its reputation on reliable, well-constructed tool watches. Rolex watches hold their value well in the secondary market, and vintage references in particular attract steady collector interest. The brand is known for vertical integration, meaning they produce most components in-house, including movements, cases, and bracelets.
The GMT-Master was introduced in 1954, developed in collaboration with Pan American World Airways for use by their pilots and crew. The watch was designed to track two time zones simultaneously using a 24-hour bezel and an additional hand, which was practical for long-haul international travel. The reference 1675 was produced from roughly 1959 through 1980, making it one of the longest-running GMT-Master references. It used the caliber 1570 movement, a robust and well-regarded automatic movement that replaced the earlier 1560 series. The 1675 went through several dial and bezel variations over its production run, and examples from the 1970s are common in the collector market.
The "Pepsi" colorway, referring to the red and blue bezel insert, is the most iconic and sought-after configuration of the GMT-Master. Collectors are drawn to the 1675 because it represents a period when Rolex was producing functional, no-nonsense tool watches without a lot of aesthetic excess. Dials and hands from this era often develop patina over time, which many collectors consider desirable rather than a flaw. The 1675 is generally considered an accessible entry point into vintage Rolex collecting compared to some rarer references, while still carrying strong historical significance within the lineup.
Key Details To Consider
This is a Rolex GMT-Master reference 1675 from 1978, identified by its 5.4 million serial number, presented in good overall condition with all original components intact.
The steel case retains thick lugs, which is a desirable trait on vintage examples like this. It was polished at some point by a previous owner, so the surfaces have a smoother, more uniform finish rather than the crisp factory edges you would see on an unpolished example. Case numbers are fully legible and intact. The Pepsi bezel insert is in excellent condition with strong color and good definition on the markings.
The dial is a period-correct MK5 example, and it has developed an even, heavy yellow patina across all the indices. The matching hands show the same patina, which gives the watch a consistent, well-aged look. The lume plots still react under UV light, which is always a good sign on a dial of this age.
The jubilee bracelet presents exceptionally well. It shows no stretch, feels very stiff and rigid, and currently fits a 7.5 inch (19 cm) wrist. Additional links can be provided and added upon request.
The cal. 1570 movement was professionally serviced in June 2026 and runs properly. It was also pressure tested to 3ATM (30 meters) following the service. A watch like this, with a recent service, documented pressure test, all-original dial and hands, and a bracelet in this kind of shape, is a solid example of the 1675 at a stage where it can be worn and enjoyed without immediate additional expense.
