DESCRIPTION

Rolex Submariner 5513 “MK1 Maxi Dial”

Rolex, founded in 1905, stands at the pinnacle of luxury watchmaking, renowned for its precision, durability, and innovative designs. The Submariner, introduced in 1953, set the standard for diving watches with its robust construction and superior water resistance.

Introduced in 1953, the Submariner was one of the first wristwatches designed specifically for diving, and it has since become a benchmark in both tool and luxury watches. It offers a blend of functionality and understated design, making it a favorite not only among divers but also among collectors and enthusiasts worldwide.

The Submariner 5513, produced from 1962 to 1989, is particularly revered for its minimalist appeal and no-date configuration. Over its long production run, it saw several dial variations, including the highly sought-after “Maxi dial”—characterized by its larger, more prominent hour markers for improved legibility. The 5513 is also prized for its use of the plexiglass crystal, aluminum bezel inserts, and the robust Caliber 1520/1530 movements.

Its enduring popularity lies in its clean design, vintage charm, and historic significance in the evolution of dive watches. A well-preserved example from the late 1960s, like the one described, represents a key chapter in Rolex’s legacy.

Key Details To Consider

Rolex Submariner No Date Ref. 5513 presented in very nice overall condition. The stainless steel case retains thick and sharp lugs, having been previously polished to Rolex standards with factory-like bevels throughout.

The MK1 Maxi Dial has developed a rich, warm yellow patina with matching hands, giving the watch a beautiful vintage character. The MK4 bezel remains in very good condition, complementing the overall aesthetic.

The Oyster bracelet is exceptionally tight with no stretch and includes 11 links, with additional links available upon request. All serial and reference numbers are clearly visible, with the 1.9 million serial dating production to approximately 1967.

The movement was professionally serviced in November 2025 and runs accurately. The watch was also pressure tested to 3ATM (30m) to confirm its water resistance. A well-preserved and collectible example of one of Rolex’s most iconic references.
