DESCRIPTION
Rare 1963 Tudor Submariner 7928
Tudor, founded in 1926 by Hans Wilsdorf, the creator of Rolex, is known for producing high-quality timepieces that combine Rolex’s durability with more accessible pricing. The brand has earned a solid reputation for its rugged, tool-oriented watches, particularly its dive watches, which have been favored by both professional divers and military forces over the years.
The Tudor Submariner 7928, introduced in the early 1960s, is one of the most iconic models in the brand's history. This reference, especially with the rare Pointed Crown Guards (PCG), is highly sought after by collectors. The 7928 was Tudor’s answer to the Rolex Submariner, offering similar design and functionality but with its unique touches, such as the "shield" logo and distinctive dials. This particular model from 1963, with its original unpolished condition and heavily patinated tritium dial, is a remarkable example of Tudor's rich legacy in the dive watch arena.
Key Details To Consider
This exceptionally rare and unusual 1965 Tudor Submariner reference 7928 is presented in all-original, never polished condition. The case shows honest signs of wear and surface scratches consistent with age, yet retains its original factory finish and clearly defined bevels throughout—an increasingly scarce characteristic for this reference.
The watch features a striking period-correct mirror glossy gilt dial in outstanding condition, with all lume plots fully intact. The luminous material remains active under UV light, emitting a bright green glow consistent with zinc sulfide, and is complemented by matching original hands. The period-correct “long 5” bezel insert displays a highly unusual purplish-brown tone, adding distinctive character and visual depth.
The original Oyster riveted bracelet, fitted with 80 end links, remains correct to the watch. Inside, the butterfly movement was professionally serviced in February 2026 by our Rolex master watchmaker and is running perfectly.
Most notably, this example is accompanied by its original and period-correct rose box and papers—an extremely rare and desirable full set that is seldom encountered. A remarkable opportunity for the serious collector seeking an uncompromising vintage Tudor Submariner.
